Inspired by Greek mythology, Annabel Karim Kassar reimagines the Orto Botanico with a sweeping reusable wooden portico, crafted in wood, that traverses the centre of the gardens. Visitors are guided through the structure towards a series of hand-painted figures that encourage exploration of the garden’s hidden treasures.
Fourteen hand-painted icons of guardian nymphs, created by Annabel herself, are scattered throughout, directing visitors through the various gardens, combining sensory and ephemeral architectural storytelling.
Two couches punctuate the space, inviting visitors to slow down and pause. Designed by Kassar, produced by Dàmeda and handcrafted in Meda, Italy, these outdoor furniture pieces offer places where visitors can stop, observe, rest, and immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the garden.
The installation merges natural beauty, architectural design, and mythology, with lighting enhancing the drama of the garden at nighttime.
All the materials used in the installation will be recycled and reused in future projects and other setups.
