Situated in the industrial district of Chengdu city, Sichuan province, the building occupies 1300 square meters of the total area of 54,550 square meters that makes up the factory land.

The project consists of three levels with a total floor area of 2650 square meters. The program encompasses facilities that serve the factory building and are complimentary to it.
The reception area, laboratory and canteen for the administrative staff and factory workers are located on the first floor level. The second floor level is fully dedicated to the administrative offices and meeting rooms, and the third level to the dorm rooms, recreation area and a staff training room.

In addition to the symbiotic functional relation between the exiting factory building and the project, the two structures answer to each other graphically, in a kinetic effect, rhythm is generated between the metal vertical strips of the factory building and the striped polycarbonate sheets that make up the skin of the project.

The materials used for the project are simple and locally sourced. The main structure consists of a concrete shell doubled by polycarbonate as a second skin. The monochromatic background brings out the vibrant colors of the polycarbonate, this allows a play of transparency, generating reflections and a strong photographic effect. The chosen colors blue, yellow and clear polycarbonate mimic the blue skies and the sun which rarely appear in the atmosphere of the city.

The project tries to incorporate natural elements within the architecture. Having large bay windows and glass façades introduce natural light into the building. The openable windows are set back with respect to the polycarbonate skin, while the fixed openings are directly connected to the polycarbonate façade. Natural lighting is filtered through the coloured polycarbonate generating different hues indoors, changing the mood colour and bringing in the colours of the sun and blue sky. Green spaces and water surfaces within the building generate breathing spaces, it is a take on the ancestral gardens of Chengdu. The terraces and planted surfaces become green pockets that punctuate the plan on all levels, with maple trees, green and black bamboo, gingko, ferns, papyrus and a multiple of local plants.

The two fire escape staircases along the side elevations, break away from the rigid shell to become a feature edging the two ends of the project, creating an external promenade that pierces through the building.
